Call out the NAB’s Hypocrisy

Tweet Congress Today!

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is aggressively lobbying Congress not to reauthorize the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act of 2010 (STELA). STELA allows satellite TV companies to capture and use broadcasters’ content often at a licensing rate below what broadcasters think is fair.

This isn’t an issue that directly impacts music creators or fans, so why do we care? We care because the NAB has set a new bar for hypocrisy in Washington with their opposition to this bill.

The NAB is arguing that STELA is an unfair and unwarranted subsidy for billion-dollar companies at the expense of the content creators who are not being paid fairly for their work.

If that argument sounds familiar to you, it should.

It’s the same argument we make when we demand to be paid when sound recordings created by hard working music creators are played on terrestrial radio.

NAB has to be called out for this, and we can make that happen.

The NAB will be testifying this week on Capitol Hill so we need you to send tweets to the committees holding hearings asking them to demand an explanation from the NAB.
