Senator Mark Pryor Criticizes the NAB’s Decision To Hike Membership Fees Rather Than Pay Artists

08 June 2023

The Organization Will Charge Members 33% More While Also Claiming Members Can’t Afford To Pay Artists Their Fair Share

Washington, DC, June 8, 2023Following reports that the National Association of Broadcasters plans to increase dues for its members by 33%, Senator Mark Pryor, Co-Chairman of the musicFIRST Coalition, issued the following statement:

“The National Association of Broadcasters is so worried about being forced to do the right thing and pay artists for their work that they are hiking member dues so they can spend millions of dollars more fighting the American Music Fairness Act. They fear the momentum the legislation is gaining in Congress, among the creator community, and with music lovers across the country. While they claim that $500 per year — less than $2 per day — is too much for small radio stations to pay for access to unlimited music, their 33% fee hike will bring annual NAB membership dues to anywhere between $665 to $4,655. All of which begs the question: If broadcasters can afford to pay the NAB’s skyrocketing dues, why can’t they afford to pay music creators for their hard work?”
